This proposed Rural Land Use Strategy is far more worse than it may initially appear, and it demands urgent action.

In any situation like this, there are winners and losers. Unfortunately, it is often the “Little Guys” who end up being the losers. The vulnerable are being hit the hardest and their rights are at risk.

Here are extracts of the alterations that are included in the June 6th Council Meeting Agenda which could go unnoticed by many property owners.

Farming Zone Schedule 1 – Commercial Scale Broad Acre Agriculture
“The RLUS proposes that the minimum lot size minimum below which a planning permit is required for a dwelling in Farming Zone 1 (FZ1) is increased to 80ha (double the current minimum lot size for subdivision). All lots under 80ha will require a permit for a dwelling and Council will seek to discourage dwellings that are not for genuine farming purposes”.

Farming Zone Schedule 2
“—it is recommended that the Farming Zone Schedule 2 land (FZ2) to the west of Bairnsdale be included in the Farming Zone Schedule 1—“.

Farming Zone Schedule 4 – Commercial Horticulture
“—The current minimum lot size for subdivision is 1ha. — it is recommended that the minimum lot size for subdivision be increased to 10ha.”
